Political Groups Report More Good News for GOP

Two political groups have reported some good news for GOP legislative candidates. The Civitas Institute is reporting today that Unaffiliated voters are breaking for the GOP by a 39% to 27% margin, a 12 point lead and a 20 point swing from 2008. Also today Public Policy Polling is reporting that on the generic ballot, the GOP leads 49% to 41%. More signs that the GOP is in strong shape to take over both chambers of the state legislature for the first time in over 100 years.

Up in 41 and Up in 112

Goodness, with every passing day we see more and more polls released showing Republicans leading State House Races. Just today, both Civitas and Carolina Strategy Group released their polls in HD 112 and HD 41 respectively. Civitas is reporting that GOP candidate Mike Hager is leading his race 46 to 36 over Democratic challenger Jim Proctor (it’s an open seat). Carolina Strategy has GOP candidate Tom Murry plus 10, 45 to 35 over Democratic Incumbent Chris Heagarty in HD 41. For more information about these races, please see our news section.

GOP Poised to Gain Control of State House

With yesterday's release of a survey conducted by the Civitas Institute, Republicans are now in position to gain the majority in the North Carolina State House. In House District 1 (Camden, Currituck, Pasquotank, and Tyrell counties), GOP Candidate John Woodard leads Democratic Incumbent Bill Owens 44 - 41. According to their press release: "Among voters who said they were most likely to vote in 2010, Woodard's lead increases to 15 points, 52 - 37". In addition, the poll shows what we have seen across the state: GOP House candidates are polling double digit leads among unaffiliated voters. This proves that these voters also believe it is time for a change in leadership in the state legislature. Republicans need 9 seats to gain the majority in the State House and with this survey, independent polling firms now show Republican candidates winning or tied in 10 races which would be pick-ups for the GOP. A Great Primary Day - But A Reminder Of The Work To Do

We wanted to take a moment to thank all of the courageous Republicans who put themselves out in the public sphere to run for office.  Their dedication to the cause of smaller government and individual freedom makes all of us proud.  Win or lose, their efforts have served to make our state a better place.

Even in all of this, bad news from Democrats continues to flow in.  Yesterday, Rusty Carter plead guilty to illegally soliciting campaign contributions for Gov. Perdue and Sen. Marc Basnight.  With the primary behind us, all of our efforts are now focused on winning a majority in 2010 to eliminate all forms of corruption such as this.

Clear Difference in Priorities: Wasteful Spending, Increased Fees, and the Size of Government

The Times News out of Alamance County recently wrote a great piece clearly detailing where differences lie between Republicans and Democrats in 2010.  Rep. Dan Ingle and GOP candidate Roger Parker forcefully deride the increased taxes and wasteful spending that is second nature to Raleigh.  Meanwhile, Democrat Rep. Alice Bordsen believes it's OK - even inevitable - to raise fees and doesn't once mention cutting spending.  Send a message in November - that attitude is not acceptable!  Sign up to volunteer in our effort or consider making a contribution to help us take a majority in 2010.

Rep. Pat Hurley Recognized by the Randolph County Republican Women

Rep. Pat Hurley recognized by the Randolph County Republican Women

The Randolph County Republican Women recognized Rep. Pat Hurley for her outstanding work and accomplishment by naming her the 2010 Alice Ward Award recipient at the County Lincoln Day Dinner on March 19^th.  Alice Ward was the first Randolph County woman to run for a state office, and even though she lost that election, this award was established to honor her accomplishment in politics for women in Randolph County.

Rep. Pat Hurley is the first woman to accomplish the goal of Alice Ward – to be the first women from Randolph County to be elected to a state office.   After retiring from the Clerk of Court office, she decided that she wanted to do more as a public servant – and so in 2006 she ran for NC House District 70.   Her victory in 2006 was a historical moment for women in Randolph County.   The focus of Rep. Hurley’s second term has been the High School Dropout Rate and Mental Health Reform, and she is currently running for her third term.
