House Republicans Keep Their Promise to North Carolinians Affected by Natural Disasters

Wednesday night House Republicans passed House Bill 1023, the Storm Recovery Act of 2019, keeping their promise to provide aid to North Carolinians affected by natural disasters.

House Bill 1023 appropriates $280 million for communities still struggling to recover from Hurricanes Matthew, Florence, Dorian and other major storms. This is the sixth disaster recovery bill passed since 2016, bringing the total provided to victims of major storms to over $1 billion.

Rep. John Bell stated, “Thank goodness we are a state that is fiscally responsible, that is prepared for disasters, to provide relief to victims who desperately need our help in recovery.  Where schools were devastated, where infrastructure was devastated, we’re helping them rebuild, and we’re doing it in the right way that is sustainable over the long-term.”
