Winston-Salem, NC – On Thursday, September 12, 2024, the Forsyth County Board of Elections voted unanimously to grant a full evidentiary hearing into a residency challenge of Amy Taylor North, the Democratic candidate for House District 74.
The Board established that the residency challenge met the burden established under G.S. §163-85 and probable cause exists regarding Amy Taylor North’s actual domicile, moving the matter to a formal investigative hearing on Friday, September 27th at 10:00 AM.
The complaint, which was filed on Friday, September 6th, 2024, provides specific examples that detail the “substantial and undisputed evidence from public records and Amy Taylor North’s own social media activity” that she does not live at her registered address in the district.
“I urge the Forsyth County Board of Elections to investigate this matter thoroughly and to take immediate action to correct Ms. Taylor North’s voter registration to reflect her true domicile,” the complaint reads. “Ensuring the accuracy of voter registration is critical to maintaining the integrity of our electoral process.”
Amy Taylor North will now be required to appear under oath and testify to her true domicile. If she refuses, “the challenge shall be sustained” and prevail.
Further background:
The Winston-Salem Journal Magazine, the Winston-Salem Monthly, in May 2023 published a lengthy profile of Ms. North’s residence, the “The mansion on Main,” a 150 year old home in Old Salem, reporting “Ten days after moving in, (North) hosted a fundraiser for Congressional candidate Jasmine-Beech Ferrara.”
The Winston-Salem Monthly further reported “This summer, she hopes to host an archeological dig right in her front yard.”
“I don’t mind disrupting, and I welcome a challenge,” (North) says with a smile. “If I didn’t love preserving and sharing history, I wouldn’t be in this landmark house. Drive by on a nice day and you’ll probably see my doors wide open. Stop in. I’ll show ‘n tell you about it all day long!”
