BIOGRAPHY

Representative Reece Pyrtle is a lifelong resident of Rockingham County and a 1985 graduate of Morehead High School in Eden. He is a 1989 graduate of Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. Reece joined the Eden Police Department in May 1990 and held a variety of positions over the years. On March 2nd, 2009, he was appointed Chief of Police for the City Eden. Reece retired as the Chief of Police from the Eden Police Department in January of 2018. On November 8th, 2016, Reece was elected Commissioner for Rockingham County and was reelected in November of 2020. He resigned on August 12th, 2021, after being nominated and appointed to fill an open seat in the North Carolina House of Representatives representing Rockingham County’s District 65. In 2022, he was reelected to serve in the North Carolina General Assembly in the 2023-2024 Legislative Session.

As a legislator, Representative Pyrtle serves on the committee for Appropriations, Appropriations, Justice and Public Safety, Families, Children and Aging Policy, Health, Judiciary 2, House Oversight Committee on Substance and is the Chairman of State Personnel. He is also serves on three non-standing interim committees, the North Carolina Courts Commission, the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Information Technology and is the Vice Chair of the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Justice & Public Safety

Reece lives with his wife Valerie and his daughter Ainsley in Stoneville. His wife Valerie is an educator, and his daughter Ainsley is Sophomore at Appalachian State University. He and his family are members of First Wesleyan Church. When he is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family and playing golf.
