Senate Bill 266, The Power Bill Reduction Act, was a no-brainer to slash electricity costs by $15 billion, secure reliable power, and shield North Carolina families from rate hikes. It sailed through the NC House with broad bipartisan support, backed by the NC Chamber, NC Electric Cooperatives, and groups like the John Locke Foundation. Yet, Representative Lindsey Prather (D-Buncombe) shockingly voted against it, abandoning her constituents.
A vote for SB 266 would have:
Saved You Money: Cut electricity costs by about $15 billion for North Carolina families and businesses.
Built Reliable Power: Supported new nuclear and natural gas plants to keep the lights on as our state continues to grow.
Kept Rates Stable: Prevented big bill spikes from fuel price changes or new power plant costs.
Protected You: Ensured utilities can't charge you for mismanaged projects and makes shareholders cover some costs when old coal plants close early.

Prather's vote dismisses Buncombe County's needs, still reeling from Hurricane Helene. Her choice fuels higher bills, threatens jobs, and weakens our grid, caving to fringe leftwing critics over hardworking families. House Republicans demand Prather stop playing politics and start fighting for affordable, reliable energy.
