LeVon Barnes Wants to Completely Defund the Police — And He’s Backed by Stacey Abrams, Who Said the Same Thing on CNN

LeVon Barnes is not running a moderate campaign for North Carolina House District 64. He is openly pushing the radical idea of completely defunding the police, and he has the endorsement and active support of Stacey Abrams — the same Stacey Abrams who, on national television, endorsed defunding the police.
In a recent episode of a podcast, Barnes advocated for completely defunding the police. North Carolina House Republicans correctly flagged the remarks: “Rep. Dennis Riddell’s radical Democrat opponent, LeVon Barnes, just advocated to COMPLETELY defund the police. If you want lawlessness in Alamance County, LeVon Barnes is your candidate.”
This is not spin. This is the candidate on camera.
Barnes is not alone in this extremism. He is endorsed by and canvassing with Stacey Abrams. In a June 2020 CNN interview with Alisyn Camerota, Abrams was asked directly about defunding the police. When pressed — “So yes to some defunding?” — Abrams answered: “We have to reallocate resources, so yes.” That is the record. She later tried to walk it back and claim she never supported defunding, but the CNN clip does not lie. She said yes to defunding the police.
Alamance families do not need a state representative who wants to zero out police funding. They do not need a candidate endorsed by someone who told CNN she supported defunding the police. They need someone who understands that public safety is not optional and that “defund” is not a slogan — it is a policy that failed.
